HOW TO: Change the Google Logo to Your Favorite Google Doodle

We all love Google’s Doodles, in which the classic homepage design is changed to mark a special anniversary or event. But if you’re anything like us, you probably wish that the Google logo was a little more fun every day of the year . Fortunately, there’s a clever little and unofficial Greasemonkey script from Google employee Tiffany Lane that will let anyone using Firefox or Chrome personalize their Google homepage with their favorite Doodle all year-round

Nexus One Crushes the iPhone 3GS in Reader Vote

I’m starting to think that Apple and the iPhone should be a bit concerned, because its Google-built Android rival is quickly gaining goodwill and market share. Every week, we host a poll series on Mashable called the Web Faceoff , where we give you the reader a choice between two or three major tech or web-related products to choose from. In this week’s edition, we asked you to choose between the Nexus One and the iPhone 3GS , two of the best smartphones on the market

Twitter Faceoff: Old Versus New Style Retweets

We thought we’d try something a little bit different for this week’s edition of our Web Faceoff series. Last week we saw Digg beat out Reddit and StumbleUpon for social news champion, and this week we’re throwing out a timely but more provincial battle: Twitter’s new official retweet feature versus the “old school” method of text-based “RT-ing.” Since it was first announced back in August , reactions were mixed over the plan to alter how retweets were officially treated by Twitter.com as well as clients. Now that the feature is live to everyone , we wanted to get a sense of where the Mashable audience stands on the New versus the Old method of re-broadcasting another user’s tweet.

Search Engine Faceoff: Google vs. Bing

We’ve seen a couple of heavy-hitting matchups in our Faceoff series in the last couple of weeks, with Google Android smashing Apple’s iPhone and Verizon trouncing AT&T recently. This week we have another clash of the titans, with Microsoft’s relatively new search contender Bing going head-to-head against incumbent Google for Mashable readers’ search supremacy. Who will be the winner in this week’s faceoff?

Network Faceoff: AT&T vs. Verizon

For the last month and a half, AT&T and Verizon have been at war . Verizon launched ads tearing down AT&T’s 3G coverage, AT&T countered with a lawsuit and ads starring Luke Wilson

Retweet Avatar Display Improved by User Script

If you’re a Firefox user, you may already be familiar with Greasemonkey , an extension that allows users to create scripts that change the display or behavior of web pages. Greasemonkey scripts can come in extremely handy for various purposes, and Leonard Lin has come up with one that adds utility to the default Twitter display for the new retweet function . The user script, which you can download and install here , modifies the avatar display in your Twitter.com timeline to include both the person you’re following’s avatar along with the avatar of the Twitter user they retweeted.

Twitter Client Faceoff: TweetDeck vs. Seesmic Desktop

It’s time to kick off this week’s Faceoff challenge, wherein we pit two web services or software packages against each other in a knock-down, drag-out fight. Last week, Windows 7 went the distance to narrowly defeat Apple’s OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard operating system.

Barnes & Noble Sued Over Nook Design

As the electronic book reader market heats up with a number of new offerings coming up, this was an unexpected flare up: Spring Design, makers of the Alex dual-screen eReader , are suing Barnes & Noble over their Nook eBook reader, another dual-screen device announced the day after the Alex. The lawsuit claims that Barnes & Noble violated an NDA with Spring Design and misappropriated trade secrets by copying features from the Alex into their own Nook eReader. Spring Design’s VP of Sales and Marketing was quoted as saying “We showed the Alex e-book design to Barnes & Noble in good faith with the intention of working together to provide a superior dual screen e-book to the market.” In development since 2006, the Alex runs the Android operating system and utilizes two screens to provide an innovative level of interactivity as compared to current market leader, the Amazon Kindle .

Out of Control Forklift Driver Destroys Vodka Warehouse [VIDEO]

Some incidents, like the video of the baby in a stroller who survives being hit by a train, are just plain unbelievable unless you actually see them for yourself. Case in point, this astonishing video of a Russian forklift driver who smashes until shelves of Cognac and Vodka, and subsequently destroys a huge portion of the Moscow warehouse. The driver of the forklift lost control, slammed into stock shelves, and seconds later was covered in bottles of alcohol

It’s Friday night, and that means another Web Faceoff is going into the books. For the last few weeks, we’ve placed popular web services in the ring and asked all of you to choose the victor.
