Facebook’s New Publisher Leaves People-Tagging Broken

It seems that one key feature of Facebook -– the ability to tag friends in status updates by using the “@” symbol –- has been broken since the social network rolled out a new publisher in conjunction with the new Facebook Questions product on Wednesday. In an e-mail to Mashable, Facebook says that the company is “working to fix the issue” and that it only affects users who have the new publisher enabled (like most major new features at Facebook, the rollout of Questions and the new publisher is a gradual one). We’ve noticed several other issues since the launch -– notably, our Facebook Page has been failing to display recent updates.

Ivy Bean, who was widely considered to be the oldest Twitter user, died in her care home in a small town in England at the age of 104. The news was published on Bean’s Twitter account, @IvyBean104 , which regularly informed followers about Bean’s deteriorating condition over the last couple of days. “Ivy passed away peacefully at 12.08 this morning… Im sorry it took me so long to tell you but it was a very difficult thing to do,” the tweets said.

Yelp Testing “Daily Deals” Feature

It seems that Yelp is getting ready to implement a “daily deal” feature across the popular website; they’re beginning to test this feature in certain markets, notably Sacramento. After a few Yelp users noticed Groupon-like deals popping up on Yelp.com, the company’s community manager confirmed, “We are testing it out for fun to see what kind of response it generates… Also, there will be another Deal coming out on Wednesday so look for it!” Deals have been showing up for select users on the right side of the home page.
