MTV Releasing Facebook Game and iPhone App to Promote “Jersey Shore”

The second season of MTV’s reality hit, Jersey Shore , will debut this coming Thursday. To build anticipation around the first episode fist-pump style, MTV is releasing a Facebook game and iPhone app that will feature the show’s larger-than-life personalities in cartoon form. The Facebook game is a Jersey-Shore -lover’s dream come true and challenges players to battle each other in head-to-head pickle and tanning lotion throwing competitions


Train Smarter with Runner’s World iPhone App

Runner’s World magazine today announced the release of its SmartCoach iPhone app, which creates customized training guides for race distances between a 5-K and a marathon. Users can input their most recent race time, weekly and long-term distance goals, training level (maintenance, moderate, hard or very hard), the day they’d like to schedule their long runs and the amount of time they’d like to train for (up to 16 weeks) to receive their customized plan. The app suggests a running distance and pace that varies each day, increasing in distance and speed and then tapering off shortly before race day.


Flickr Updates iPhone App for HD Video Uploads and Multitasking

Photo-sharing service Flickr has released version 1.2 of its iPhone app, adding several new features to take advantage of the iPhone 4 .


eBay Helps You Dress Better with New iPhone App

eBay is on a mission to make itself an online destination for fashion-conscious shoppers, first with the launch of fashion.ebay.com in April, and furthered today by the launch of its eBay Fashion iPhone app. As one would expect, the app [iTunes link] gives users access to eBay’s listings in the fashion category, as well as the “Fashion Vault,” eBay’s version of Gilt Groupe , a site that offers a mix of designer luxury goods for up to 70% off retail prices beginning at noon ET every weekday (incidentally, one of Gilt Groupe’s founders was a former eBay employee). My favorite feature is the Closet.

eBay Acquires Barcode-Scanning iPhone App Redlaser

eBay has acquired RedLaser, a barcode-scanning app that helps users locate the best price for a product and uncover further information, from technology startup Occipital. Occipital will remain a freestanding company. The paid app [iTunes link], which was featured in Apple’s “Shopper” commercial for the iPhone (see below), is now available for free.
