Foxconn Halts Hiring, Probably Not Completely Pulling Out of China [REPORT]

Foxconn is considering restructuring its operations in China, reports Businessweek . At the same time, The Register writes that Foxconn is considering shutting down its factories in China altogether, a rumor that arose out of a shareholder’s meeting held three days ago. Hon Hai to Raise Salaries of Focxonn Workers

After a string of suicides in Foxconn’s China factories, home to some 400,000 workers who manufacture electronic devices for giants such as HP, Dell, and Apple, the management announced it plans to raise workers’ salaries by 20%. The timing of the announcement is most probably tied to the suicides at the Foxconn factory, as another employee jumped to his death on Wednesday, bringing the total suicide toll in 2010 to ten.

Apple “Saddened and Upset” By Foxconn Suicides

Foxconn CEO Terry Guo gave a guided tour of Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen to members of the press — showing off a swimming pool and workers’ facilities — in an attempt to prove that the conditions at its Shenzhen factories aren’t the cause for the suicides of nine Foxconn workers this year.
