Not too long ago it was predominantly the blue collar sector worried about being replaced by robotics, but it appears even astronauts have some competition from our future metallic overlords. NASA will be sending humanoid robot Robonaut2 to the International Space Station to work alongside its human comrades on the next (and theoretically final) space shuttle Discovery mission this September.
Apple Launches Redesign of the App Store [SCREENSHOTS]
A few minutes ago, we got tipped off that Apple has begun a rollout of a redesign of the iPhone App Store within iTunes. It only took a quick check of Twitter and the iTunes store to confirm that, indeed, the application description pages of the iTunes store have changed. The new-look app store is cleaner, whiter, and brings the most important information closer to the top.
AOL Relaunches: Will Monsters and Goldfish Boost the Stock Price?
Today, AOL comes back on the NYSE following its spinoff from Time Warner (TMX) — and the one-time Web titan is marking the transition with a rebrand. Gone is the blue AOL of old, replaced with goldfish, monsters, butterflies and the partially lower case “Aol” branding we previewed previously. These symbols represent themes on the site; pick one to change the color scheme and background.
AWESOME: Urbanspoon iPhone App Adds Augmented Reality
The mobile augmented reality space continues to heat up, with Wikitude and Layar on Android and the Yelp Monocle debuting AR on the iPhone. Today another iPhone app gets the augmented reality treatment, this time with restaurant-finding Urbanspoon ’s new “Scope” feature. The AR adds to Urbanspoon’s existing featureset, where you can browse or search for a good restaurant nearby or, with a surprisingly fun gesture, shake the phone to get a random local result.
Microsoft Apologizes for Photoshop Trainwreck
Earlier today, two screenshots of an ad from one of Microsoft’s sites began circling internet forums and blogs: one depicted a conference table with a couple of happy employees: an Asian man, a black man, and a white woman. The other image was from the Polish version of the same site, and it’s identical to the first one, except the head of the black man was replaced with a head of a white man.
